It is important to keep in mind that the Lap Band is only a tool to help you achieve your weight loss goals. To achieve the best results, you will also need to follow a program of regular check-ups, ongoing gastric band adjustments, and have the dedication and determination to change your lifestyle for the better.
Adjusting the band
The first adjustment usually occurs about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. Your patient care adviser will let you know exactly when you need to come in. Each adjustment is a simple procedure that’s performed without surgery during an office visit.
During the adjustment, a thin needle is used to inject or withdraw saline from the band via the access port. Your surgeon will take into account how much weight you have lost, the amount of food you can comfortably eat, your exercise routine, and the amount of fluid already in your band before determining if you need an adjustment.

Buddy Up Program
If your body mass index is too high, you may not be eligible for a lap band surgery. False Creek Healthcare Centre offers the Buddy Up Program to allow you to work with another patient to help you both lose the weight needed to qualify for the lap band procedure.
The path to weight loss is not always easy. By sharing your goals with another person, you can boost your confidence and maintain the drive to lose the required weight in order for you to arrive at the body mass index you require.
